Biography

Petr Fiala started to play quitar at the age of 8 years. In 1990 he entered the State Conservatory in České Budějovice, he studied in the class of important Czech quitarist and composer Jan Truhlář. He ended the studies under the leadership of Pavel Steffal with whom he created quitar duo. The result of this cooperation is the CD "Baroque quitar jewels". While studying the Conservatory he recorded some compositions for the Czech broadcasting and TV. He also devoted his time to chamber music with violoncello, violin, flute and marimba.

He entered the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Prague where he studied with the world famous quitarist and composer Prof. Štěpán Rak. At his graduation concert he presented Rak´s Variations on J.W. Duart in the Czech premiere. Štěpán Rak´s music became his favourite one, therefore he interprets it often. In the Academy he got his psychology, pedagogy and metodology degrees. While studying he founded the quitar duo Chitarri concertanti with Emanuel Kümmel. Together they achieved many successes, the most important one of those being their participation at the prestigious international festival Janáčkův Máj 2002 in Ostrava. In 2002 he reached the finale in the international solo quitar competition in Kutná Hora.

In 2001he started to teach at the Primary Art School Habrmanova and in the same year he participated as solo player on the school CD with the string orchestra Juventus Gradecensis. Between 2002 - 2005 he lectured music-therapy at the department of Special Pedagogy of the University of Hradec Králové. In 2003 - 2005 he was the director of the Primary Art School in Jaroměř and from 2005 he directs the Primary Art School Habrmanova in Hradec Králové. Currently besides playing classic solo quitar he turns to the jazz music from the 30s and 40s. In 2005 he recorded CD Opus One with the Blue-Star Band. In 2005 he also founded jazz trio B.D.F. with the pianist Martin Brunner and bass player Tomáš Dvořáček.

Among his greatest successes he ranks his participation on the international marathon in 2001 with the time 4:44:22.
